CALBAG METALS COMPANY 2500 NW NICOLAI

Calbag Metals Company operates a metals recycling warehouse at 2500 NW Nicolai Street, in Portland, Oregon. The warehouse was constructed in 1949 on undeveloped property and has been in use continuously at the site. In 2010 a voluntary cleanup investigation was performed and a No Further Action was issued by Oregon Department of Environmental Quality in August 2011. Plateau Geoscience Group provided technical and documentation support for a stormwater Source Control Evaluation report. Plateau compiled and evaluated soil and shallow groundwater data, and evaluated beneficial water uses for shallow groundwater beneath the site. Soil data were compared to Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) Joint Source Control Strategy and Risk Based Concentration screening levels. Soil contamination concentrations exceeding screening levels were identified as isolated to an area beneath the current warehouse floor slab. No beneficial uses of shallow groundwater were identified. The Source Control Evaluation is under review by Oregon Department of Environmental Quality.
